La crisis económica está empujando a muchos extranjeros a dejar España. El número de inmigrantes, solicitantes de asilo y refugiados que quieren abandonar volver a su país de origen se ha disparado en los últimos meses, según datos de Cruz Roja, la Organización Internacional de las Migraciones (OIM) y la Asociación Comisión Católica Española de Migración (ACCEM). En lo que va de año, 457 personas ya han solicitado a Cruz Roja volver, frente a los 447 que lo hicieron a lo largo de todo 2007.

La inmigración en España
Estas tres ONG facilitan el retorno voluntario a los extranjeros que quieren volver a sus países y que no cuentan con los medios necesarios para ello. Al estudiar cada solicitud, se valora la experiencia vital del inmigrante en España y aspectos como las dificultades de integración, el desarraigo, los desequilibrios emocionales provocados por la pérdida y la separación de la familia, o la denegación de las solicitudes de asilo.
Cruz Roja ya ha retornado a 238 personas, 119 están autorizados y pendientes de viajar, y un centenar más está a la espera de que la Dirección General de Migraciones les dé el visto bueno, lo que ocurre en la mayor parte de los casos, según fuentes de esta organización. A los 457 inmigrantes que ya han solicitado volver, hay que sumar otros 150 expedientes que Cruz Roja tiene que estudiar y que afectan a 300 personas como mínimo, puesto que cada expediente es una unidad familiar de, al menos, dos personas. Si el ritmo se mantiene, Cruz Roja espera repatriar a más de 1.000 personas durante este año.
Presupuesto agotado
En la oficina española de la OIM, el pasado mayo se agotó el presupuesto de este año para el programa de retorno voluntario de inmigrantes y ya tiene 1.800 solicitudes en lista de espera para acogerse a la iniciativa.
La ACCEM también ha comenzado ya a notar el aumento de peticiones para el retorno pero sobre todo ha detectado un importante incremento de la demanda de información al respecto. En 2007 esta ONG repatrió a 104 personas (58 inmigrantes y 46 solicitantes de asilo). Sólo en el primer semestre de este año, ACCEM ha gestionado ya el regreso a su país de origen a 74 personas (65 inmigrantes y 9 refugiados).
Al margen de la acción de las ONG, el Gobierno ha aprobado la puesta en marcha a partir de septiembre de un plan de retorno voluntario e incentivado en el que los inmigrantes desempleados recibirán todo el paro acumulado en España en dos pagos. El Ejecutivo prevé que al menos 20.000 personas pedirán acogerse a este programa de un total de 100.000 inmigrantes que se estima están sin trabajo.

But nations further west left their alerts in place for much of Sunday, even after waves proved small, in case of additional tsunamis triggered by the huge Chilean temblor.
Nations took the warning seriously in a region where raw memories remain of the deadly December 2004 tsunami in the neighboring Indian Ocean that killed nearly 230,000 people in 14 countries.
Some of the biggest preparations were taken by Japan, where meteorological agency officials issued the nation’s first major tsunami warning in 17 years. They initially said they expected walls of water up to 3 meters, or 9 feet, high.
In Tokyo, train lines and highways in densely populated areas along the edge of Tokyo Bay were stopped for hours. Further north, officials said they ordered the evacuation of some 570,000 households from coastal areas mostly on the main Japanese island of Honshu, a areas that has seen killer tsunamis in the past.
Television news programs showed elderly residents in Iwate prefecture sitting on blankets in school gyms that had been turned into makeshift shelters. In the hilly port city of Hakodate, on the northernmost island of Hokkaido, residents sat on hilltops for hours on Sunday watching the sea.[/quote]
I was watching on & off the MSNBC coverage and frankly not impressed with their 'scare' tactic coverage - based on scientific fact and investigation the after-effects would be obvious but hey what's with checking things first these days.... granted the potential for loss of life was there but could news channels act again like news channels - reporting the facts not paranoia & spreading fear.....plus I don't want to hear at the end of it all "Thank God he saved us"....if you believe that surely God caused it in the first place too...
